Fix Fail #2: Overnailing

fix fail trim carpentry construction diy

When I’m tasked with fixing a door, I’m not surprised when I find the previous work done to be less than adequate. Door installation is a specialized skill and not everyone knows how to do it properly.

In this instance, I was asked to fix some door trim that wasn’t installed properly. I had to pull the trim off the door and when I did, I discovered someone had fired a whole bunch of nails into the trim. Instead of ensuring the door was installed properly in order to get the trim to line up right, someone just shot a ton of nails into the trim to try and get it to stay where they wanted.

Just so you know, putting a dozen nails into a piece of trim won’t make it right.
